The Teddy Bear:

In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a captured bear during a Mississippi hunting expedition, believing it unsportsmanlike. The story inspired a famous political cartoon and, soon after, a stuffed bear created in his honor: “Teddy’s Bear.”

Roosevelt was also a brother of Delta Kappa Epsilon’s Alpha Chapter at Harvard and a member of the Class of 1880, carrying DKE’s values of character, leadership, and lifelong friendship throughout his remarkable life.

The Teddy Bear raises a glass to Brother Roosevelt and his enduring place in American and DKE history. This 2020 Napa Valley Cabernet, presented as part of 1844 Reserve, is a fitting tribute to a larger-than-life Deke and the brotherhood that has defined Delta Kappa Epsilon since 1844.

We introduce you to The Teddy Bear. Our 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully expressive wine that captures the essence of classic Napa Valley. The nose bursts with vibrant aromas of ripe black currant, blackberry, boysenberry, and dark plum. On the palate, it's full-bodied and richly layered, offering depth and intensity of dark fruit flavors. Silky tannins and fresh acidity create a harmonious balance, while notes of dark chocolate, cedar, and a subtle hint of minerality lead into a long, elegant finish.

Lanpher Legacy:

Lanpher Legacy Pinot Noir celebrates the consequential service of Doug Lanpher, Gamma ’77, during his tenure as Executive Director of Delta Kappa Epsilon. This Collector's wine honors a legacy of leadership, friendship, and brotherhood that has strengthened DKE for more than sixteen years.

Crafted in the cool climate of the Russian River Valley, this elegant Pinot Noir opens with bright aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and brown sugar, accented by warm baking spices. On the palate, vibrant strawberry flavors unfold into a round, velvety mouthfeel, and a long, graceful finish.

The Mansion on the Hill:

Worthy of the wine cellars of such notable Deke brethren as Cyprian G. Webster, Louis J. DuPre and Louis Deshields, this proprietary “crimson” blend exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry and long lasting, like the timeless traditions of The Mansion on the Hill. With silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now, but has the ability to age well in the cellar; thus, “It’snever over.” - W.G.

This wine exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. From the chalky soil of the Carneros region in southern Napa Valley, this gem exhibits lush green apple and bright grapefruit notes while dancing across your palate. This stunning wine is light and friendly with very subtle vanilla and pear blossom hints on the nose. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Napa Chardonnay.
